Child Learns 02:52
I am a starving child I don't have much to do I just long for the bookish one with the mountains clear in view Once I went to her fortress With nothing but the clothes on my back And she would just take care of me Not caring that my brain was all cracked Now I'm just the splintered one Shelved and laid down on the rack Once we went through the skylight The clouds were filmed and flimsy through The sun glazed every piece of glass And it slowly turned to you And she would just take care of me Not caring that my brain was all cracked Now I'm just the splintered one Shelved and laid down on the rack
2.
You live in a mountain of books where the pages are the carpet and the bindings are crooks No one ever sees you my friend No one ever sees you again You litter through the cryptics like a wriggling worm, where the sun shines down and around to your head You'd rather nook and crouch by the wall But the books offer much or nothing at all You might be one or two or three but certainly not the one that I held once before, no no, you might just be more But you wisp through me Are you the one that escaped from me? You slowly step on polished tiles with clicking clopping tiny shoes that echo a while But you don't stop for me Just keep walking slowly and surely
3.
It's because you've yet to see into the way you cut your food It's because you've yet to be the person that you thought you should It's because the blankets that you need are wrapped around my ankles And the buzz you left inside my ear is simply hard to replicate here Help me come to Kid would kill to sleep in deserts soft and wrinkled somehow Kid would fix the puzzle pieces littered all over the places we were It's above the things I lifted up to meet up with your eyes It's above the things I made you see that were too hard to try Just turn your head for one last second with a trying look And then I'll sit and feel the same to die, to die, to die, to die, to die Help me come to Kid would kill to sleep in deserts soft and wrinkled somehow Kid would fix the puzzle pieces littered all over the places we were

Mugs 03:12
You pick and preach and fill yourself up Like lizards scuffling all in the rough I'd rather take my blocks out of me And set them on a surface level with my knees I'd climb a couple hexagonal walls for you If you'd know just what that would do I'm building cricket houses in your kitchen But nothing could dislodge that stuff from your ear We were once a couple of mugs I can see how you construct your conscience As if you had the tools to do so I've got a pretty good head on my shoulders I've got a toolbox full of trash if you want to visit Put down your animals and go for a walk I know the terrain is jagged and rough I'd carry you over here, there's no doubt If you'd take down your electric fence We were once a couple of mugs
6.
Notes you wrote for me to find 3 years from then Glued and wrapped around my head so I can see again Sinister angelic wren, when will you speak my name? When will you speak my name? Kitten paws & lizard claws wrapped up in a cloth Laying down in sunny bliss as some heart wants to call Wooden shelves around the room will creak yet stand tall When will you speak my name?
7.
Bookbeat 03:23
Spineless I was, yes I was yes I was Timeless we were, no we weren't, no we weren't And now I don't know where I am And now you, you're everything I am to blame, I have shame, this is true my friend But like a book, I'll read to the end You'll take a drolling stroll with no tolls on your soul And I'll just sit right here, drawing on my fingers Kindness you had, certainly certainly A mess I am, clean me up clean me up And still I am covered in shit So what have I got to give? I am to blame, I have shame, this is true my friend But like a book, I'll read to the end You'll take a drolling stroll with no tolls on your soul And I'll just sit right here, drawing on my fingers
8.
Brain 04:24
The pale lit tiles, they call for me And so I come to see the array The people mill, they make their fates And maybe one is looking towards me Have you seen the soul I'm missing now? I would love to sit in the sun and let the buildings call me all around and shade me to none Just throw your things around the yard and wait for me to draw my card I'm waiting here, inside my head Thinking that you might walk on by My head is dark, my head is strange So I put a yellow shirt on. Fix my collar, if it means your hand is closer to my Brain The sun shines down, still, around your frills The ones that choose to sit and take a rest on your back It's fine, I'm sure your insects are well fed on your desk ...But where did my mind go? But where did my mind go? But where did my Brain But where did my mind go? But where did my mind go? But where did my Brain
9.
Problem 05:55
I am not your problem to fix Must have been the way I said it When I said I meant it this time When I said I meant it this time
10.
The saints don't know, think in stereo Just because somethings (here) doesn't mean it's not (there) Come to terms right now, close your eyes Just because you think my mouth is filled with ink doesn't mean I'm wrong I'm not to be forgotten Tilt your head back now Close your eyes I marked you when you left, now I am bereft Can you bring it back? And so here is the end, our colors cease to blend I'd put us on a painting Turn your head back now, turn the time And yes I know you're shy, and I don't mean to pry, but can I say goodbye? Can I say goodbye?

about

This is a backlogged record, endearingly called a 'Printer Prelude'. I find these records to be dated, of a lesser quality, and not as indicative of my current level of musicianship, however there are some good songs here. This was written long ago, but brought back to life. There is an accompanying podcast explaining this older record, which you can find at basicprinter.com/podcast. Enjoy!

This album is easily the most personal thing I've ever created in my life. Each very frank lyric is in reference to a specific time in my life, and the music is inspired by a series of visuals and visions that crept into my mind, the product of letting a good person incubate in my heart and soul for too long. I would go on, but my included letter in the download says it all better.

I am eternally thankful that the music that is sliding infinitely through the air has chosen me in which to culminate these sounds, stories, and visuals.

Enjoy, and thank you so much for listening to my heart, brain, and soul. You all bring me much joy.

Download includes front and back artwork, supplementary artwork inspired by the album, a letter from me, and a lyrics sheet.
